Day 110 — the tongue is in the head, not the brain
The reasoning primitive grew a sequel: a synthesis tier that composes eternal primitives into a runnable artifact and RUNS it — 'build me leaderboard v99' from parts that exist, or an honest abstain. Then the anatomy that frames the whole project: werbos is a body, and the tongue lives in the head, not the brain — speaking is not knowing, which is exactly why cards never become weights. Plus depth-first minting, the reasoning loop drawn into the flow graph, a Levels-of-Progression page, and the atlas refreshed to 942k cards.
“the tongue is in the head, not the brain”
Yesterday reasoning learned to think past what it was told. Today it learned to build past it — and the day ended with the sentence that explains the whole architecture.
Think past → build past
reason_tree — the Merkle-verified decomposer — got its sequel: the synthesis tier. Retrieval
answers what exists; honest-abstain covers what I don’t know; this is the tier above —
what doesn’t exist yet, derived from the trajectory and verified. Hand it an intent and it
decomposes to eternal primitives (map, filter, sort, pair…), composes them upward, and runs
the result. Ask for “leaderboard v99” — a version that doesn’t exist — and it builds one from
today’s parts, a richer weave of the same primitives, and it runs and passes. Ask for a
“quantum-blockchain metaverse” and it abstains — no matching composition, no faked changelog.
Verification is the entire difference between invention and confabulation. A frontier model returns a plausible React-33 changelog (a lie); werbos returns a running, tested thing built from parts that exist, or it says it can’t. Then the two primitives fused: the artifact is no longer looked up from a recipe — it’s derived by the reasoning tree’s recursive decomposition, so two different intents share the exact same primitive leaves (identical Merkle hashes), and a “later version” is just a deeper tree.
The anatomy
Explaining the stack out loud, the frame finally landed: werbos is a body. The head holds the
senses and the tongue (the owned model — ab --serve); the brain holds four containers —
raw facts (the cards), recall (the router), the processor (resolve()), and reasoning
(reason_tree → synthesize); the heart is the server plus the pacemaker (the mint → grade →
verify flywheel). The one load-bearing claim: the tongue is in the head, not the brain. The thing
that speaks is separate from the thing that knows — speaking is not knowing. That single fact is
why cards never become weights, why the model can be small and still win: it reads instead of
remembers. docs/anatomy.md is the one-page version.
The rest of the day
The mint got smarter about where to dig — thinnest-library-first, so teacher passes land where depth pays most (Math, History, Earth & Geography, Philosophy are the thin ones). The reasoning loop got drawn into the flow graph — a filterable layer you can watch: goal → decompose → compose back up → proof root, or an honest gap. A new /lop page tells the version story as an achievement ladder, every future gate a number, every past level backed by the real changelog. And the /graph#atlas coverage map refreshed to the live library: 942,365 cards now, up from 837k as the minter keeps filling the holes.
The through-line, from the primitive to the anatomy to the atlas: the tree is the explanation, the library is the truth, and the mouth stays a mouth.
